John Cephas Piedmont Blues Festival
Since his historical marker unveiling, it has been the initiative of the Bowling Green Arts Commission to have an annual music festival honoring John Cephas and the style of blues he pioneered, Piedmont Blues. John Cephas lived in the Town of Bowling Green until his passing in 2009. Cephas developed a banjo-like technique of playing the guitar, and he was presented with many awards through his career, including the National Heritage Fellowship Award from the National Endowment for the Arts. The 2015 festival is the kick-off of this event. Musicians attending the event include Phil Wiggins, MSG Acoustic Blues Trio, Piedmont Bluz Acoustic Duo, Eleanor Ellis, Rick Franklin and Robert Flowers with Jay Summerour, Warner Williams and Eric Selby. Instructional workshops will be offered from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.; this is an opportunity to meet the artists as well as learn fundamentals of the harmonica, guitar, and banjo. Music will begin at 2 p.m. at the main stage. Food vendors, artisans, and activities will also be on hand for all ages. Music CDs available for purchase at event. K95 CountryFest at the Meadow
On Saturday, June 20, K95 CountryFest returns to The Meadow Event Park. This full afternoon and evening of country music and country fun is more than a concert. In between sets, you can cheer for your favorite car in the demolition derby, shop at fun and funky vendors, grab a bite to eat and enjoy a cold beverage. The CountryFest Playground is the place for friendly competition – whether it is in the second annual cornhole tournament or seeing who can last the longest on the mechanical bull. Once the demo derby cars have crashed and crumbled, music will resume for an evening concert on the Bud Light Main Stage. The music lineup for this country-casual event will be a lively mix of regional bands and national headliners amid the rolling green hills in Caroline County. The Meadow is also home to the State Fair of Virginia and easily accessible from the I-95 corridor between Richmond and Fredericksburg. The Charlie Daniels Band and The Swon Brothers will headline the energetic and diverse slate of artists. All concerts and the demolition derby are included with admission.
