Guest Reviews

Was a very quiet and peaceful retreat. Gail and Ralph were perfect hosts. Plan on repeat visit soon and will probably be a goto spot for us. Would recommend as a great place to unwind. I had a problem with the web site for booking but called and Gail had resolved and returned my call very quickly. I give Shady Acres a 5 out of 5 star rating! Jim S. July 2015

"One of the best b and b's I have ever stayed at. Certainly the most hospitable folks running a b and b; they are constantly asking if you are hungry even if it's not breakfast time; in fact they gave us food when we arrived late Friday night. It is quiet except for the occasional reassuring "country noise" from the roosters outside and grandfather clock inside. The room was large and the bed very, very comfortable. Located in a beautiful setting. Alan Levine, Washington, D.C. On May 19, 2014
Me and my fiancé stayed with Ralph and Gail in early August 2013. We loved the stay! Our primary reason for the visit was to spend a couple days at Kings Dominion, which is only about 12 minutes down the road, with Shady Acres having an perfect location. If you are looking for lodging accommodations near the shopping mall or next chain restaurant, Shady Acres is not for you (the home is located at the end of a remote road) which is one of the main reasons we choose to stay there. We could not of asked for better hosts, which created a very relaxed environment.
Mr. and Mrs. Olberg – Just wanted to say how much my husband and I enjoyed our stay at Shady Acres.
It was great watching the sunset from the front porch while sipping tea. We enjoyed Walker, the dog, Romeo the rooster and Sandi and her 4 chicks. Hard to believe all your chickens have names. Seeing all the wonderful antiques and hearing the stories behind some of them was very interesting. Our breakfast of eggs and country sausage was also a hit.
Am going to recommend your place to our friends. Sincerely, Gee and Jack Stuar
Dear Gail and Ralph,
We wanted to thank you for being a wonderful host. Your house is delightful. My room was very comfortable with soothing view from our window. Our private bath and the fireplace very romantic. Watching the chickens run around the yard was really a great experience. Breakfast was delicious every day with fresh eggs. Can't wait to return and relax. Life is so busy for everyone it is really needed to relax and Shady Acres bed and breakfast is a great place to relax. See you again soon.
My husband and I stayed at Shady Acres B&B while in the area for the Secretariat Celebration and truly enjoyed the accommodations. The setting is very convenient, but it is away from the hustle and bustle. Breakfasts are delicious, especially the eggs produced by the friendly resident free-range chickens. We saw baby squirrels and enjoyed the company of the resident fur-baby. The rooms are lovely. The beds are especially comfy, and we were able to enjoy Duke basketball on the super nice tv. The room was cozy and nice.

We return to Shady Acres Bed and Breakfast every year for Nascar. The location is convenient, the breakfasts are never disappointing, the SleepNumber beds are fabulous and the hospitality of Ralph and Gail is over the top. S&S.H.

Gail & Ralph, Thank you so much for your hospitality over this past weekend! We were looking for a weekend get-away and you provided just that! We'll be sure to spread the word about Shady Acres! R&B 9/21/2014
